BATTBELT, a start-up created by the IKERLAN technology centre in collaboration with BEABLE CAPITAL, an investment fund specialising in science equity, focuses on the design and manufacture of a new and revolutionary battery compression system capable of extending the useful life of batteries without affecting their energy density or cost.

BATTBELT technology is capable of increasing the effective charge and discharge cycles of batteries, reducing the degradation associated with the increase in internal pressure that occurs between cells due to the continuous expansion and contraction that the batteries undergo in each cycle. The patent-protected asset uses smart materials, and is also capable of acting as a sensor to monitor the degree of cell swelling and achieve more accurate battery health measurements. All this is done in a safe operating environment, improving the energy density of the batteries without incurring additional costs.
